What to expect and how to prepare for your Indianapolis Family Photography Session…
I am excited to be working with some new and returning families this year and I hope everyone is having a great start to 2019! When I work with each family I try my best to follow a consistent workflow so everyone has a high-quality experience from start to finish. Here is a bit more about what you can expect when you choose to work with Kelli White Photography for your family photography.
How to Book?
After we connect through email, web or social I will send you my booking calendar with specific details about your session and any available dates. You can choose any date and time that works for you and place your retainer at the same time. You will also get a link to a session agreement and questionnaire so I can learn more about your family.
This information helps me to prepare for your session, scout out any location ideas you have and gather some info about your personalities and interests. At this point I will be very excited for your session and looking forward to meeting you!
Now on to the fun part… choosing what to wear for your family photos
After you have booked, I will send you a link to my online styling service that will give you ideas and help you to plan out your outfits. I recently wrote a post detailing the service, so you can view this to get an idea of what it offers. I love how it saves you time, provides great and affordable style options and allows you to order online if you so wish! I also wrote a post that offers some additional guidance on styling your session.
What to Know Before Your Session
Finally before we meet I will send you a final email with some last minute reminders to help ensure we are all set on time, date and location. This email will also include your final invoice to be paid prior to your session and information about digital file delivery and printing options.
I also like to remind families that my photography session style is relaxed, connected and candid. I want you to focus on loving your family and I will do the rest. While I will try to get a fairly traditional picture at the beginning of the session, you will not spend the entire session smiling at the camera. I won’t tell your kids to “say cheese” but I may chase them around the park or ask them to feed my silly stuffed owl in order to get some genuine smiles. 🙂
Once You Arrive
When you arrive at the session location, I will normally be gathering my gear or ready to go right outside my silver subaru (I love my little wagon!). Don’t be too surprised if I spend the first few moments introducing myself to your kiddos. I want them to feel comfortable with me before I start taking pictures, like a family friend, and not like a stranger with a big scary camera. I also like to walk a little bit before our first image, to get to know you more, catch up and connect. Again, you are now my friends and I want everyone to feel relaxed and happy for picture time.
Finally… we will create some memories!
Now that we are all connected and officially friends, I will direct you and your family through some different locations and poses. The key for the adults to remember is to spend the time looking at your beautiful family and enjoying the time together. I will work on getting your kids to laugh or smile (or be serious if that is their personality), and will probably make a total fool out of myself at some point in order to do so – no shame. I want to capture your family’s true personality, unique connection and the joy that always shines through in every session. Each family session lasts about 45 minutes (sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more) but I always allow for flexibility depending on your needs.
After the Session
Once we are finished we will all say goodbye and hopefully you will all leave feeling energized and pleased. The BEST compliment for me is when mom or dad gets to the end of the session and says “That was actually a lot of fun!” I want you all to enjoy the experience and the time you get to spend with your family. Even when a child has an unhappy moment during the session or you think we didn’t get many ”good photos” …I promise you can trust me!
Delivery
Within 1-2 weeks I will send you a link to your family slideshow set to music that has some of the best highlights from your session. This will be for you to download and keep, and/or share with family and friends. After this (2-3 weeks) I will send all of the high-res digital files in an online password protected viewing gallery. From here you can order prints, download your images and have the images for any of your personal use.
Thank You
After your session I will stay in touch. I’ve been known to send emails, holiday gifts, or thank you cards. I appreciate everyone who inquires, or decides to book a session with me. You are supporting me and my little family and I want you all to feel valued and respected.
